The Character of Easter - Jesus
Last Sunday Discovery Point:
The Character of Easter - Jesus
Easter is a celebration of the new life we have in Jesus Christ. Without His death
(crucifixion) and resurrection, we wouldn’t have the hope of salvation, the opportunity to
have a personal relationship with Him, or the gift of eternal life in Heaven. Today we
learned about the major events that God ordained to bring salvation to mankind through
His Son, Jesus, whose death paid the penalty for our sins and resurrection proved that He
is God’s Son. Jesus’ sacrifice provides salvation to those who choose to believe in Him
and repent from their sins. And while salvation is available to everyone, we must decide if
we will personally have faith in Him and become a Christian.
Scriptures used: Luke 23:26-34, 44-49, 24:1-9, 36-48
Memory Verse:
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 NIV
Suggested Parent/Child Activity:
Discuss things that happen “before” and “after.” Examples include what happens
before/after a meal (preparation/clean-up) and getting to watch television (finishing
homework/going to bed). Then talk about the differences between Jesus’ death and
resurrection, such as how people must have felt (from sad to joyful) and how their actions
changed (from ashamed to courageous). Help your child understand that our own actions
should reflect a positive change from before we knew Christ to after we accepted
salvation. Lastly, if your child has yet to believe in Jesus, allow him or her to ask any
questions they may have regarding salvation.
