Psalm 91 - God is a Refuge

Last Sunday Discovery Point:
Psalm 91 – God is A Refuge
Today we continued our discussion about God’s protection. Last week we learned that God is our Mighty Fortress, or shield, between us and evil. Psalm 91 also tells us that He is our refuge during times of trouble. We learned that God is very active in our lives and gives us promises when we choose to follow Him. The Lord promises to help us and even send His angels to guard us from harm. God is very interested in being a part of our lives and is ready to answer us when we are in need. Isn’t it awesome to know that the King of the Universe provides for us? He truly is our trustworthy Refuge. Scriptures used: Psalm 91:9-16

Memory Verse:
“If you say, ‘The Lord is my Refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no harm will come to your tent.” Psalm 91:9-10 NIV

To prepare, read the verse with your child and then write 3-5 words on a single piece of paper until both verses are written. Then shuffle the papers and work together to put the words in the correct order. If necessary, reread the verse to your child. To make the activity more challenging, remove one piece of paper after each completed round to see if your child remembers the missing words.Continue removing words until the verse can be recited form memory.

Suggested Parent/Child Activity:
Practice your household safety precautions for when there is a storm, fire, or an intruder. Ask your child to consider why it's important to know what to do when there is danger (so you can act quickly and be safe). Help him or her make the connection that we should also remember to turn to God when we face physical and spiritual danger. Explain that God is our Refuge, and He provides the best shelter when we are in need. If desired, share with your child about a time when God was your Refuge and help him or her understand that God truly desires to care for us.

Question from Message:
(Parents) When are the last time you called on God and God saves you?

Daily Prayer:
Thank You, God, for being our Refuge! Help us remember to seek Your shelter and strength when we face trouble. And thank You for Jesus' example and for His sacrifice. Amen.
