Thanksgiving Series – Moses and Miriam were thankful

This Sunday Discovery Point:
Thanksgiving Series – Moses and Miriam were thankful
Today we began our Thanksgiving lessons by learning why Moses and Miriam were thankful to God and how we can follow their examples of thankfulness. Moses and Miriam showed thankfulness to God through songs, worship, and by playing musical instruments. And we can show our thankfulness in the same ways! Music is one of the most familiar ways we can express our thankfulness, and God is pleased when we sing and praise Him with thankful hearts. (Scriptures used: Exodus 15:1-21)

Memory Verse:
“The Lord is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.” Exodus 15:2

Sing the verse to the first part of the music in the hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is our God” to learn the verse with your child:
The Lord is my- - strength and my defense
He has become my sal- -vation
He is my G-od and I will praise Him
My father’s God And I’ll exalt Him

Suggested Parent/Child Activity:
Use the internet to look up different ways to say “thank you” (such as sign language or foreign languages). Challenge one another to correctly pronounce the words while identifying various reasons you are both thankful. For fun, use some of the newly learned expressions this week as you work to show thankfulness. Emphasize to your child that it’s important to show thankfulness to God and others so we can grow in faith.

Daily Prayer:
Thank You, God, for Your protection, provision, and love! Teach us to have thankful hearts that want to serve You and others. Teach us to show thankfulness. Thank You for Jesus’ example and for His sacrifice. Amen.
