Tithes and Offerings - A Cheerful Giver

Last Sunday Discovery Point:
Tithes and Offerings - A Cheerful Giver
In today's lesson, children learned that God wants us to give with a cheerful heart and a generous spirit. God doesn't want us to give because we feel that we have to. It pleases God to see that we give because we want His Kingdom to grow. We can give many things; we can give of our time, money, talents and prayers. All of these things help others learn about God's wonderful plan of salvation. When we give, God will make our gifts grow beyond our wildest expectations.
 Scripture used: 2 Corinthians 9:6-10
Memory Verse:
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

Practice this verse several times with your child during the week. This will help him or her remember the verse and it will also help to reinforce what he or she learned during class.

Suggested Parent/Child Activity:
People get awards and/or trophies for doing all kinds of things. Help your child make a "Most Generous Person" award or trophy and then present it, together, to the most generous person you know.
As you make the award or trophy discuss the positive aspects of being generous verses the negative aspects of being greedy.

Daily Prayer:
Dear Lord, May greed and selfishness never enter our hearts and minds. Help us have a kind and generous spirit. May the time, talents and resources You have given us be used to further Your kingdom here on earth. Amen.
