Bible Bee Challenge **UPDATED**

Hello Families,

We are excited to announce our first-ever "Bible Bee" at CCAC!

And we want to invite everyone, especially parents and kids, to participate in the challenge!  :)

What is a "Bible Bee"?

It is similar to a spelling bee but instead of memorizing random words, we will be using the BIBLE and a list of bible verses (most of these are the memory verses from Elementary Children Worship and Kidz Club this past school year!)  You will need to form a group, it can be with your family (minimum one parent must be involved) or with youth friends (minimum one adult must be present) or as a non-family life group (maximum 4 adults allowed together).  Then as a group, you can divide up the list of verses as you see fit to cover more content, or you can work on each verse together as a group.  THE ORDER OF THE VERSES MATTERS, PLEASE FOLLOW THE LIST (we do not expect groups to memorize the whole list on the first try).  We encourage families to get everyone involved, and parents, take this opportunity to explain and dig deeper into these verses with your children.  Life groups and friends, we also encourage you to spend some time reflecting on the passages.

The Bible Bee Challenge is not competitive; we hope people will take on the challenge as a way to practice scripture memorization at home and boost teamwork within your family/friends/life group.  You do not need to sign-up to join in on the challenge; but if groups do sign-up, they will receive a small token of recognition to celebrate their efforts!

If groups want to participate in the monthly "bee-offs", then they should mention it when they sign-up.  Bee-offs are when groups recite each verse one by one down the list until they cannot remember anymore.  Those who participate in the bee-offs will be given a a badge for their courage, and families with kids will also be given a discount/coupon code to use for any CCAC Children's Ministry program registration in the future.

What language and translations will be used for the "Bible Bee"?

For the first month (July), it will be in English using ESV or NIV Bible translations only.  However, if we have more involvement from Cantonese and Mandarin groups for the second month (August), we would love to include those languages and their Bible translations.

Who can sign-up and how?

We want everyone to participate, the more the merrier!  We hope families, groups of friends, couples, and life groups of all congregations will join.

Simply email, text, or call Amy or Evan to sign-up.  The deadline to sign-up for the first month's challenge in July is June 30, 2020; and the deadline to sign-up for the second challenge in August is July 31, 2020.

When and where is this going to happen?

The first bee-off will be on July 25th, 2020 in the afternoon.  If you are comfortable, we would love to meet in-person (physically distanced) in the church parking lot; if not, we will schedule individual bee-offs at different groups' driveways.  More details will be given to those who sign-up.

Why are we doing this?

We thought it would be fun to have CCAC come together and challenge each other to hold fast in the Word.  Recently, we finished our study for the book of John and many passages talked about the importance of God's Word -- John 8:31-32 speaks about abiding in God's Word, which is truth and the truth sets us free; John 15:10-11 tells us of the joy that is in us when we keep His commands; and John 17:17 explains how we are sanctified by the truth and the truth is the Word.

Also, in Matthew 4:4, Jesus tells us “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Paul writes in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
And in Hebrews 4:12,"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

So if it is so important to us as followers of Christ, why not memorize it?  :)

We hope that people of all ages will decide to take part in this challenge, have some fun along the way, and build a habit of hiding God's Word deep in their hearts.  (Why Memorize Scripture // 5 Reasons Kids Should Memorize Scripture)

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions about the Bible Bee.

Have fun!
