God Gives Us Hope Through His Strength

Last Sunday Discovery Point:

God gives us hope through His strength

Last Sunday Key Verse:
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Strength to fly!

Ever wish you could fly? Read Isaiah 40:31 out loud. No, that verse isn’t talking about people flying. It’s a promise that if we just trust God, he’ll give us new strength!

Try this trick to remind yourself to trust God!
Stand in a doorway. Press the backs of your hands against the door frame as hard as you can. Count to 25. Move away from the doorway and relax your arms. What happens?

You found new strength!
When you stopped pressing so hard, your arms wanted to fly up. God promises to renew our strength when we trust him, even when we’re tired and troubled. Next time things get tough, remember that God promises to give you new strength!

Try again, but this time, take turns lifting each other higher in the doorway so the person in the doorway can practice trying to hold the position without falling down (you’ll have to use your feet, too). Oh, and be sure to spot each other in case someone can’t hold on!

• How did we give each other strength during this activity?
• How does God use us to give each other strength in real life?
• What kind of strength do you need from this family?
• How can we encourage each other with God’s strength?

This week, help each other remember that God gives us hope through his strength. When you see a family member in need of God’s strength, stretch out your arms and pretend to fly. Not only will you inspire a smile, you’ll also offer a tangible reminder of Isaiah 40:31!

Pray together and ask God to help you encourage each other to rely on God’s strength.
