A Wonderful Wedding
Find John 2:1-12, and read about Jesus’ very first miracle! Jesus turned water into wine. You can’t do that, but you can turn something red.  Here’s how:

Have an adult help gather these supplies:
  • shallow pan
  • small bowl
  • 1 cup water
  • 1⁄2 cup vinegar
  • 1⁄4 cup liquid dish soap
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 packet of red powdered drink mix
Cover a table with newspaper. Pour the dish soap and vinegar into the bowl, and set it inside the shallow pan. In a separate container, add the baking soda to the water and stir. Sprinkle some of the powdered drink mix into the water and baking soda until it turns dark red like wine.

Slowly pour the water mixture into the soap and vinegar mixture, and watch as it erupts into a foaming red volcano! Surprised? The chemical reaction that made your cool red volcano was nothing compared to Jesus turning water into wine!

Play in fast-forward mode a portion of a Bible story video or a DVD movie that’s new to your family. After a few minutes, stop the video and talk about how much is missed when we hurry through things. Play it again at the regular speed. Challenge one another to slow down and watch for amazing things God does each day this week.

Talk about these questions:
• How do you think God feels when we’re too busy to notice what he’s doing?
• When are sometimes that we can slow down so we can notice God?
• How can we help each other so we can slow down?

Use the red foam and a paintbrush to paint the words, “Jesus can do anything!” on a sheet of paper. Hang the paper in your room to remind you of Jesus’ first miracle!
