God is Love

Last Sunday Discovery Point:
God is love

Last Sunday Key Verse:
“Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But any-one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)

Go Show God's Love
Read 1 John 4:7-8 out loud a few times. Notice anything? Two words keep popping up: love and God. When we show love to others, like this passage says to do, we’re spreading God’s love.

Now try this!
Cut a heart out of white poster board. Mount it on a slightly bigger piece of colored poster board. Hang it on your wall. Tear red construction paper into small pieces big enough to write on. Put the pieces in a bag or bowl near your poster.

Whenever a family member “gets caught” showing love to someone else, write what that person did on one of the paper pieces. Glue or tape the piece to the heart. To get started, have family members think of a time someone else in the family showed them love. Each person should write a few words about what happened on a small piece of construction paper and attach the paper to the heart.

Write the words of 1 John 4:7-8 around your heart! See how long it takes you to fill up the heart with loving actions! When the heart is full, you’ll have a mosaic full of loving actions!

• Why does God want us to show love to each other?
• How does God show he loves you?
• In what ways does our family demonstrate God’s love?

As a family, look for a special way to show God’s love to a neighbor, friend, or even a stranger, and then go do it. Spend an hour at a nursing care center or help a neighbor with some yard work. Invite another family to dinner, send a care package to a friend, or donate to a charity. When you return, take time to thank God for his love as well as all the ways that you can share God’s love.
