God is Our Refuge

Last Sunday Discovery Point:
God is our refuge

Last Sunday Key Verse:
“The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him” (Nahum 1:7)

Shelter(s) in a Time of Storm
Walk around the rooms of your house and make a list of things that protect in some way, such as a door, sofa cover, lampshade, pair of shoes, and so on. Come back together. Read Psalm 46:1.

Compare God with the list of items you made earlier. For example, you could say, “God is like a pair of shoes because he protects me when I walk to school."

As you’re driving to lessons or on errands, play a version of I Spy, looking for people or things that protect or keep us safe. Seatbelts, crossing guards, stop signs, and firetrucks are just starters. The clues should identify how God is like the item or person. For example, you could use this clue for a seatbelt: “This is like God because it holds me tight.”

Invite your family to demonstrate what it means to be a refuge by working together to build a shelter such as a birdhouse or a cozy corner for a pet. Consider visiting an animal shelter and ask about the ways they protect and care for the animals.
