New
Beginnings – Unlimited Chances
Today, your child
learned that God’s mercy allows us to start afresh. Each week is a new week,
each day is a new day and each hour is a new hour. We can come to our Father in
Heaven through His Son and ask for forgiveness as often as needed, when we are
truly repentant. God will forgive us an unlimited amount of times because His
mercy and love is unlimited. When we truly repent, and are sorry for our sin,
Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross will allow for us to be cleansed from our sin.
(Scripture used: Matthew 18:22-23)
Memory Verse:
“If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from
all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 NIV
Practice this verse several times
with your child during the week. This will help your child remember the verse
and it will help to reinforce what he or she learned during class.
Suggested
Parent/Child Activity:
Read Matthew 18:22-23
with your child. After reading this passage, discuss why it can be hard to
forgive others. Read the full passage with your child, Matthew 18:21-35.
Discuss why the king or master was in line with Jesus’ answer to Peter about
forgiveness and how the servant’s actions didn’t line up with God’s Word.
Discuss what happens to the servant that choose not to forgive. Then talk about
what will happen if we choose not to forgive others. (Example: Sins separates
us from God. When we can’t forgive others, it is hard to get close to God and
to hear His voice clearly.)
Daily Prayer:
Dear Lord, forgive me
of all my sins. Show me Your love and mercy that is new each morning. Help me
forgive those that have offended me. Amen
